In the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work we are excited
about Flinders participation in the Student Voice Australia Pilot which is a
collaboration between ten tertiary education institutions. This pilot promotes
a student partnership approach to authentic student engagement. A students as partners approach is about authentic collaboration between staff
and students to provide students with voice and to give students opportunity to
use their expertise in creative and collaborative ways to enhance their own
educational experience and that of their fellow students.
In EPSW during
2019 there are 3 ways students can become partners:
-
Student voice on all
committees.
This will be achieved via a structure of Student Representation and Student Representatives.
You would be good for this role if: you want to help improve
Flinders by representing the voices of other students; you want to be part of
positive change in areas like student support; teaching and assessment methods,
course organisation, work integrated learning, or course quality; or you like
thinking about strategy and the big picture, you want to learn about committee
work, policy and how change happens across large organisations.
-
Creative collaboration with staff
and other students around curriculum design and/or community engagement via
Student Collaborators.
Student collaborators will be people who will enjoy
working alongside academics in their discipline to improve some part of the
curriculum, create new teaching innovations, or work on a project that connects
the discipline to community.
- Social and supportive student led initiatives via Academic Associations.
The College Academic Associations provide an opportunity to lead in development of the student
community, through academic and social events, and to partner with university
wide initiatives to better reach and impact on students within your discipline.
Why
would you want to be involved?
-
To develop your professional
skills and understand workplace processes
-
To apply your creativity, skills
and learning to real problems – and see that project become a reality.
-
To be involved in meaningful
ways to make the most of your time at university
-
To connect with others and
build your professional identity
-
To make a positive difference
- To lead and develop yourself as a leader
What
will be expected of me?
This
will depend on your role, but most roles will be about 10 hours over a semester
or less.
We also expect you to be able to attend our Student as Partners training and collaboration
day. This will be held at the Alere function rooms on March 25th. This day will involve all our student partners, and our
staff that will be involved in this work. We will be trained together on
collaboration and workshop the beginning of our collaboration and enjoy provided morning tea and lunch.
You can expect to be part
of a program that is run consistent with The Principles of Student Partnership
(Varnham, 2017)

If you are an undergraduate student, you need to have passed at least 2 topics (9 units) to self nominate.
This is
a nomination form, we will select as many students as possible to be involved,
and will try and spread student involvement evenly across different student
cohorts (degrees and year levels).
